Museum's websites. I've visited all these museums. They are well worth a visit.

In Germany:

Deutsches Panzermuseum Munster (D)

You should visit Panzermuseum at at Munster in Northern Germany, if you are over here. The huge collection shows arms, armo(u)r and vehicles from more than a century of German army history and especially the German tank troops. Munster is the historic home of the German tank troops.
The museum has two Kettenkrads.

Tuesday to Sunday 10.00 - 18.00
Mondays closed (as most German museums). On bank holidays open on Mondays.

Militärhistorisches Museum der Bundeswehr in Dresden (D)

Das Militärhistorische Museum of the German Bundeswehr in Dresden (MHM) is one of the most important history museums in Europe. In addition to an extensive permanent exhibition, changing special exhibitions are presented.

There is one Kettenkrad on display in the exhibition.

Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung Koblenz - WTS (D)
(Scientific Collection of Defense Engineering Specimens)

The Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung at Koblenz (WTS) is an official collection of the German Bundeswehr (armed forces). It was founded in 1962 and shows a lot of German arms, armo(u)r and vehicles from Imperial Germany until today.

There is a Kettenkrad on display and also a very rare prototype of the "NSU Gebirgskarette", a small full tracked vehicle, which should become the post war successor of the Kettenkrad. Its has a Porsche engine. The Bundeswehr tested it in the late 1950s but it never went into production.

Arsenalen, Strängnäs, (S)

Arsenalen at Strängnäs (Sweden, around 50 miles west from Stockholm) is a museum for historic military vehicles, which was opened by HM King Carl XVI. Gustaf in June 2011.

It merges three former swedish collections of historic military vehicles.

The museum's curator (Museichef) owns a Kettenkrad himself.

Mondays and Tuesdays closed. Check their website for actual opening hours.

Admission: SEK 140 (around € 12,70 As of June 2026). Card payment only, no cash payment. We are in Sweden.

Oorlogsmuseum (War museum) Overloon (NL)

The Oorlogsmuseum (war museum) Overloon is located, where September/October 1944 the Battle of Overloon took place. This was the largest tank battle in the Netherlands.

The museum calls themselves the "largest war museum in Europe".

Nexto to a big permanent exhibition of German and Allied vehicles and equipment there are several special exhibitions and events.

The most important event for Kettenkrad enthusiasts is Militracks in May, where a big number of German vehicles from WW2 are shown in action.

The museum is well woth a visit, even outside these special events.

The Tank Museum at Bovington (GB)

The tank museum at Bovington (UK) is really worth a visit. May be this is the biggest collection of armoured vehicles in the world. Also many German vehicles on display, including the only running TIGER I tank worldwide, a Tiger II (KING TIGER, not running) and a Kettenkrad!

The Kettenkrad on display has been in poor condition for many years. The rear was badly damaged. A few years ago it was restored (by Bruce Crompton, I presume). Not perfect but much better than before .

In addition to regular museum operations, there are several special events throughout the year, such as "Tankfest", where the tanks are shown in action in an arena.

DISG e.V.

Homepage of the DISG, the "Deutsche Interessengemeinschaft Schwimm- und Geländefahrzeuge". This is the club for all German military vehicles till 1945. Most members own a VW Schwimmwagen type 166 or a VW Kübelwagen type 82, several of them a Kettenkrad.

Start your search at the classifieds. Most Kettenkrads are offered in the section "Motorcycles / Bicycles". There is also a search button.

There are not often Kettenkrads for sale but this website is well worth a visit if you are looking for one.
Don't expect any bargains.
